Volumetric Construction

Volumetric construction involves the production of three-dimensional building modules or ‘pods’ in a controlled factory environment. Typically, the modules employ a timber or lightweight steel frame as the structural element. The architectural modules are then pre-finished and fitted out before being transported and installed on site. Multiple modules can be connected to form buildings of unlimited configurations and design.

Volumetric construction is increasingly being used for medium and high rise applications, where modules are fitted-out off site and then stacked to form complete multi-unit or apartment developments.

Volumetric construction can also be advantageous for projects in remote locations where access to skilled labour is problematic, as very little on-site labour is required after installation of the pre-finished modules.
